I miss those shows since I left Japan. I can’t find much around where I am now. Some of the best concerts I have ever been to have been there. All you get in the U.S. is a bunch of assholes that Just stand around and look angry these days. It wasn’t always like that it’s just what I have seen recently.

You need to check out a Crystal Lake show they are always good.

  • Crystal Lake is a good band, they just got done touring thier new ep split with Cleave. Yeah Japan always shows U.S. bands a good time. I wish Japanese hardcore could get a little more known in the U.S. ’cause there are some really good bands.

Yeah it would be nice if they got more exposure in the states. But hardcore is more popular in the “underground” music scene or the douche bags that want to feel like they are part of the underground scene, or the douche bags that are the underground scene. Basically a lot of them are fuckers that care more about an image then the music and are annoying as hell at shows when your just there to have a good time. It’s not everybody but I see it more and more here.

Either way it’s not going to get really big anywhere. It’s sad but it’s like punk most of the really popular bands kinda suck or really do suck and you don’t have a lot or really good original stuff unless you look really hard to find it. It’s unfortunate but it isn’t economically viable for most of the bands to try to play the states. They can’t afford it. Maybe I’m just jaded after giving up my childhood dreams of playing music professionally. I do wish them luck and I don’t like the idea that if they get popular that they sold out, it’s bullshit. Some bands are really just that good and are lucky enough to make it, but I always liked the clubs where the same guys at the bar are the same guys on stage and it is just a good time on the weekends.

  • “guys at the bar are the same guys on stage and it is just a good time on the weekends.” You get that more in Japan than anywhere else I have seen. Being over here has really opened my eyes to look in a lot of different places for not just punk/hardcore but all kinds of music. I don’t want hardcore to get mainstream, because then it would all be crap. But I like to think that kids in states would enjoy some of these bands from Japan. I think some of these bands deserve some more recognition than just from their friends from other bands. I post bulletins on MySpace about Japanese bands all the time, and the feeling I get is Americans kids don’t give a shit. Especially the kids from Cali, they all are so spoiled. We have some many great hardcore bands as it is. But kids don’t even go to shows, they don’t support their local bands, they don’t buy t-shirts, they complain about the price to buy a band T. I don’t know, I’ll get off my soap box about that for now.

As far as being economically viable? Surprisingly a lot of these bands DO have the means to make their way to at least Cali for a week – two week tour. Maybe not tour across the states. But they have no reason to go. But, I don’t know, if some of these guys had a strong (or even a little one) fan base in the states it would make more sense to make the trip. I know a lot of these bands I speak of personally (I guess that is why I feel strongly about this), and if kids just listen to some of bands they would dig it. I think anyways.

It would help if some of the U.S. bands helped out and took them on tour like what the Misfits did with Balzac. Well one of the problems is that since they don’t get radio play in the states it is harder to find out about these bands unless you are looking for them. You might see something on a website or on youtube by accident or your friends send you stuff from overseas. There are a lot of great bands but the y don’t get the exposure in the states like American bands can in Japan or Europe. If some of the Japanese labels got together with some of the U.S. ones for the distribution and advertising they would have a better chance and it would start the ball rolling.
